Bank fines:

The recent :money: recommendation to write to our banks requesting the refunding of fines made to our accounts over the past 6 years, interests me greatly.
TSB (Scotland) plc have made a fortune from my misfortune, particularly over the past couple of years. They proved themselves to be extremely mercenary and lacking in understanding while I went through a drawn out insurance claim which was necessitated by negligent and damaging building work.

Can ayone offer a general, draft letter (obviously without the relevant pesonal details) suited to submitting this request?

Have a look in the Budgeting & Current Account forum - there are quite a few threads offering advice on this very topic.

One word of advice read the FAQ's before posting!!!
The letters you need are in the library section, I think you need to register to be able to access them but it's free.0 -

The url and name for the forum has changed. It's still the same one as in the article.

Success! we wrote to Halifax bank requesting refund of illegal bank charges or else! Just received a reply lecturing us on our responsibilities and THEN in the last paragraph offering us a refund to the tune of £500! as "a gesture of goodwill". HA bloody ha! has made my day.0

If the charges are more than £500 and you are prepared to stand your ground you will get the whole lot that they have taken back.

Apologies for being so thick.
What exactly are the fines? Are they the £40 for having gone over one's overdraft or for not having ther cash in the account when a DD or SO are due? Never quite sure where charges stop and fines begin?
You really are such a knowledgeable lot on this site. How does Maritn get the time to research all this stuff. BUT, so grateful that he does.
You are also a generous lot sharing your knowledge with others so freely. Thank you.0 -
They're one and the same. You can get back all charges/fines for going over your limit/bounced cheques or standing orders etc.
You can find a list of FAQ's including letter templates at the link MarieJadar gave above which will answer all your questions and more.
