Painter and Decorator for high ceilings

Hi,

was really just looking for some general advice to help us budget.

We have moved to a new build house and love it. But after 2 years living with white walls and blandness we are ready to decorate! Only problem being our house has a sloped roof, and at its highest point our bedroom wall is around 15 foot high! All of the ground floor we can happily decorate ourselves, but from the stairs up there is no way we could. The stairs and most of bedroom are effectively double height spaces!!

What I need to know is how much would I need to budget to get a hall and master bedroom painted? We would supply paint but obviously the decorator would need scaffolding or something to get that high, and that just sounds like its going to be expensive!!

Do any of you guys have experience of this kind of thing, and give me a bit of guidance on what prices to be pitching at?

Thanks for all your help

Leah and Alison

I'm not sure how much a decorator would charge, but I know you can hire indoor scaffolding type of stuff from the hire shop.......

Please dont think about supplying the paint. Its a decorators nightmare.
youre asking for trouble. The man will be a professional, if you buy cheap paint or paint that he has never heard of or does not recommend and the job doesnt go as well as you expected then you are asking for trouble. By all means, if you want to supply the materials ask him beforehand what he recommends.
Believe me we have been there, done that as the wife of a painter i can only suggest.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

A small tower access system would easily get you to that height, any DIY hire shop can supply them.

macman, I think you underestimate how useless I am at DIY!!

Thanks for the info, I had not conidered that and it seems a good way of doing the bedroom, is it easy for an amateur to put together/take down?

For the hall I think this will be vey difficult still though, its probably about 25ft at the highest point (the full height of the house with high sloping roof!) and no place for the scaffolding to sit. At least this looks like it would just be one room to paint for the professionals, all be it a bloody difficult one!

    Thanks again

The stairwell is a different matter and should probably be left to an expert.
My dad ( a professional decorator) has a strangely shaped ladder for stairwells.
He had to do one where the drop was a whole roll of paper! Respect that man.........

As I get vertigo standing on a chair, I think I will leave it to the people who get paid to do it!!

i did my hall stairs and landing last year. all with a roller on a long stick.
    no steps or ladders required.
the bits in the corner i couldnt get to properly with the roller, i just used a paint brush taped onto the stick.
    Get some gorm.
