Swinton Cancellation Fees

Hi Everyone,
I have just renewed my car insurance on line using the great search engine confused.com, I took my car insurance out with Swinton Insurance, Swinton took a deposit from my bank account on the 18th May of £15.50, I then received all the poilcy paperwork in the post on the 21st May in the mean time my previous insurer offered a more competitive deal so I contact Swinton to cancel my policy on the 26th May. Swinton have told me I can not have refund on my deposit? and I have incurred a £50 cancellation fee and they have deducted £2.44 a guesture of good will because I cancelled before the 28th May which was the date of my new policy to start! I can not believe I am being charged £47.56 and not getting my deposit back I never even used the insurance. Has anyone else experienced this? I called their head office number who said they will not waiver, I am going to write a sturn letter and mail on Monday has anyone sucessfully not paid this cancellation charge or I am one of many who has been wiped off! Beware of these hidden charges.

Hi,
I booked this online and too be honest I did not ready anything about cancellation fees, and when I got all the documents I didn't open any of the paperwork as I put it all back in the envelope to post it back when I cancelled it.
I have today visited their website and it does say you have 14 days to cancel but you will incur the £50 cancellation fee and visiting the web I have read many forums saying they have been stung with this fee and also they were not aware of the fee when the took the policy out.
I can appreciate a cancellation fee but I cancelled before the start date of my policy and I never even used the policy it is the most expensive mistake I have made this year. I think it terrible that people get stung these charges, it must have been there but I just honestly did not see it when I submitted my application online because I certainly would have never used them if I had seen the charges.
Thanks for reading, it sounds like I will not get out of this payment sadly:-(0 -
Hi Everyone,
Just to let you know Swinton are now not going to charge this cancellation fee and arrange my deposit to be refunded.
After many telephone calls it paid off.
Anyone who uses Swinton please be careful of their charges because if you do not pay the charges they do add more charges and your fee can soon add up.
Thanks for reading my post.0
