The DW and I love hot curries, and tonight are going to make one with Curry Queen/Kris Dhillon's base curry sauce.
We bought some light green scotch bonnets from tescos (because we like it hot!) but I have no idea how many to use / how to prepare them.
The packet says to remove ALL seeds if chopping them up, or to add them whole.
Any suggestions as to:
How many to use?
Whether to add them whole, or chop them up?
If chopping them up whether to use the seeds or not?
I can handle pretty much any heat, but the wife will go mad (at me) if it's vindaloo hot!
What I'm trying to get is a "hot madras" type heat from it.
We're using approx 3 cups of curry sauce I think
Any advice from a chilli veteran would be muchas appreciated

its about 2 or 3 times hotter than a birdseye chilli (the thin ones in tesco)0

I like it HOT too, last time I put three in, two seeded, and one with seeds, mind you it was hot , my dd who is 14 ate it though
Oh and I chopped then up.0 -
When you chop up fresh chilli peppers be careful and avoid getting juice on your hands. If you touch your eyes, mouth or other ‘sensitive areas’, even an hour after chopping them, they will smart and burn. So wash your hands or wear rubber gloves.

Ignore the 'discard seeds' nonsense. It's not a proper scotch bonnet without them. I used 3 for a batch of curry a while ago (made 7 individual servings) and it was about right, mixed with a load of regular finger chillies.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Well, I'm pretty gutted.
It turned out "mildly warm"!
I decided to try two chopped up, with the seeds removed.
Next time I think I'll just go for two with seeds, and see how that goes.
DW is still talking to me though, so that's one good thing that came out of it0 -
 :eek:Throw out the seeds? Sorry it didn't turn out as hot as you hoped. Definitely keep the seeds next time and if you can pick some red ones.
Do you have a West Indian shop near you? They will be cheaper and most likely hotter from there.Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0
