Any alternative to Skype!

Any techies help me with this problem? I have Skype, downloaded the lastest version, and still getting the same prob. I could be on a call anywhere from 10 sec to 20 mins, and then the person I am speaking to cannot hear me but I can hear them perfectly. I have done the sound recorder test in windows and it works and I have done the echo test in Skype and it works. I have looked on their techie forum and some guy suggests to change the config.xml file and shared.xml file but when I get into these I cannot change them or insert a line of info as he has described. I am getting fed up. I am using wind xp and belkin wireless modem/router. Any ideas or alternative programmes I could use?

Thanks
