Royal Mail Attempted Theft

Post office services have been going downhill recently. I have been annoyed many a time with the postman for not bothering to leave a 'sorry you weren't here' card, not knocking at all to deliver letters/parcels and for dropping off my post to the wrong address (honestly can't they read?) However, I have always received my post intact when it has included cash or cheques. If they want proof though you can get it. Send yourself a card with a tenner. Film it while you're making it. If it gets back to you without your tenner you've got proof to escalate. Might end up a tenner short mind you..0

I sent over a grand in cash in the post once. It arrived safely. God knows why I did it though, I think I was p1ssed at the time. Just put a stamp on and popped it in the box.
Don't think I would do it again though.....
How do RM or anybody else know it is a cheque? It is the thickness of normal paper and if attached to/folded inside an invoice it won't show up an outline held up to the light.......0 -
Clearly, theft from the Royal Mail IS endemic and has grown over the years.0

Definitely complain. At the moment my mail is fine, but at two previous addresses I lost 100's of items. The Royal Mail often use the get out that "only the sender of the item can complain". Rubbish. The result of complaints varies immensely. I had senior managers knocking on my door a couple of times trying to convince me I was wrong. Other times I would just be ignored.
At one address it actually transpired that the postman was short sighted and was calling at a neighbours for help sorting the mail - and the neighbour was nicking our mail. This was discovered when she started putting bills through our door in the middle of the night with "pay this bill" wrote across it. Psycho !
At the second address it was competition prizes that went missing - £200 Woolworths vouchers for a start. Well before they went bust unfortunately.
I eventually paid £52 a year for a PO Box, and collected my mail from the sorting office. Nothing ever went missing then.Companies I have had problems with -
Time; Evesham; Gordon Lamb; N.Power; Safestyle; Lycos; Daum; Consumer Voice/CCB Fastmap; BT; Chard, Homeserve (plumbing insurance that solves your emergency but leaves you with the initial problem); Sony.0 -
To clarify - this has happened several times before and I have complained each time and they've never shown an interest or done anything about it
We complained about similar and got little response or so we though until several weeks later when we got a royal mail bag through the door with opened mail and a letter advising that royal mail investigators had looked in to it and where investigating the postman and the mail enclosed was what they had found. They did advise that they could not provide further details due to a possible prosecution.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

My son lives miles away so our birthday cards to the grandchildren and important documents for my sons Business where getting lost all the time RECORDED DELIVERY lost SIGNED FOR Lost (I buy quite a bit of goods from ebay and they say postage sent royal mail Signed for but i have never signed for anything it has just been pushed through the door so if i was not so honest i could always claim i had not had it) how can you claim for a certificate that your company needs for a contract with another Company anyway I complained nothing, i complained again Book of Stamps as compensation, had my son to complain still no comunication from the Royal Mail until one day a new postman knocked on his door appologised to him handed him a bunch of letters and told him they had found 2 bags of mail in the postmans home but they could not find any sign that he had opened any mail so they had dismissed him and it was in the hands of the Police. The Postmans excuse was he had to much mail to deliver so he was keeping it until he had quieter day/s . Anyway a year later nothing from the Royal Mail not even an official appology or some sort of explaination. The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

I would certainly complain. I order an item on eBay some time ago, and it didn't arrive. Both I and the vendor complained to our local post offices, and lo and behold the item turned up a few days later without the external packaging !!0

Didn't you notice that this thread was started on 6th June 2009?
And that the last post was on 10th June 2009?
Not really a lot of point advising the OP to complain after all this time.
Aren't there enough current threads to post on without digging up one that's over a year old?0 -
