DVLA Help
At the end of January I purchased another car and the private seller sent off the documents to the DVLA. At the end of March I phoned them to enquire were my documents were, but they had no record I was informed that I had to send my slip away which I did although it stated on the form not to send to DVLA ( I usually send off recorder delivery but having an ill relative in hopital meant not getting near a post office) any way checked at the end of May and they have no record of me sending in my copy:rolleyes: They now want £25.00 pounds off me to register the vehichle in my name which I think is shocking ( I bet they recieve this letter) in the meantime the road tax is due the end of the month. I will not get the reminder so is there anyway of me roadtaxing it? and can I compalin about this charge (money making scam). I have checked with the original owner and he too is livid as he sent everything off straight after sale. He could send me the reminder when it arrives but I want to road tax it early before I go on holiday. Any help much appreciated,

I don't think you need the reminder to tax at the PO. You certainly won't be able to tax online because you will be missing the ref number on the reminder. Might be worth a pre-emptive trip to PO to check what they need, obviously MOT and insurance not sure about V5C.
Good luck
PS This seems to be happening more and more with the DVLA and a theyt sometimes don't even know what tests you have passed...

Yeh there's a £25 charge for a new logbook if you lose it/it gets lost
It is the seller's responsibility to inform the DVLA to the change of keeper, whch they appear not to have done yet (as the form hasn't reached the DVLA)
If you could get the previous owner to write to the DVLA telling them of the sale you might be able to get a new v5 without paying £250 -

Old owner did send away the documents, I asked the DVLA if he wrote a letter explaining this, would that help? They said that if he wrote to them then they would take his name off the registered keeper database and then it would become an unregistered vehichle:eek: This is ridiculous as I need this vehicle for work and with my job I cannot stay away until they get around to letting me tax it. I am fed up with this country all I want to do is be legal!Fire up the Quattro!0 -
The quickest way to grt a V5 is to get previous owner to ring DVLA:mad: and order new V5 in his name. He should receive it in 3 or 4 days but you will still have to pay £25. This I have found to be the quickest.
good luck dppops0
