I did notice Tesco had a big sign saying the prices in Aldi - actually on some things they are cheaper (than Aldi). Knew it wouldn't be too long before they started matching prices - no one is allowed to compete with mighty Tesco. (Yeah I do shop there and save the points - for wine, I am so easily bought)...

Even better, Ocado and waitrose also sent me an email a few weeks back- they too are tesco price matching....
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    Hi There

My comments are in pink - its a case of making small changes. What about smart price/ value ranges. it may be worth trying to buy everything you can at smart price level - and only increasing to stores own brand if the family dont like that particular item.

The other thing i notice is that the shopping list doesnt give you much flexibility - if oyster sauce isnt on special offer but black bean is for example - there is money to be saved by altering the menu to suit the special offers / whoops items available.

Lastly - what about trying to buy as much as possible from ALdi/ Lidl. Topping up at Asda where necessary.

    You can do it

    Good luck

don't worry about what your family think hon, they aren't the ones having to deal with the practicalites of balancing your budget and getting by on it.
Look at this way, this year nan has bought the birthday cake so you don't have to and you've got more money for other shopping now.

Next year you can do the cake making thing together  So try not to beat yourself up about it ok?
  • I would try and do it bit by bit and not change every single thing all at once, cos you'll gt overwhelmed - unless you absolutely have to cos of financial constraints of course. I think the area you'll save most on is by making things like sauces, yorkshire puddings etc rather than buying pre prepared...good luck anyway!

Not nessesarily. How old is your little one? If still quite young, can you tell him the shop has run out? (I know...a lie, but a little white lie is not too too bad!) He will probably soon forget about the monkey cake in a few days. And as the other posters have said, promise him a super home made cake with his own decorations - he will be so proud of it!!

After all the monkey cake is almost 10% of your grocery bill !

Bless you I did think of trying that but my ex daughter in law uses the same store and would have been delighted to tell him that nanny was telling him lies and theres no such thing as a white lie when you get caught out by a little un.

    Well done :T:T:T

I am sure, that you will be able to get closer to your budget, every time you do it.
You have done well so far !! :D

As everyone else says... small steps, one at a time. A
nd before you know it you will be putting that extra 2 quid or whatever is left from your budget in a little tin/bank, for a rainy day, or pay something off.

    Again, well done :j:beer:

"Real" Carrots are much nicer than tinned or frozen ones, and are easy enough even for me.

Don't worry about "Nan" buying the cake if she has the money to spare why didn't she offer in the first place.

Do try out some of the recipes, Yorkshire Puddings are very easy and you can overmake so have somein the freezer for another day for you to uselike bought ones.
