7 year old bedroom ideas please

My son has just turned 7 and we desperately need to decorate his bedroom to get rid of the Thomas the Tank Engine border . He doesnt like blue and would like his bedroom painted orange, which is fine, but he is fascinated by Egypt and the pyramids so would like some sort of desert theme. This has proved almost impossible to do but even looking for curtains/ duvet to match an orange bedroom is proving hard. All the childrens curtains/bedding seem for younger children so I am curious as to what other parents of boys of this age have done.
Any help greatly appreciated as his room needs to be done asap.

If you went the sandy side of orange, it would look desert like but you might be able to get plain dye duvets and curtains this shade (Next, catalogues etc). Maybe you could get some empty picture frames and make some egyptian pictures together - heiroglyphics, pyramids etc. My daughters always loved getting involved! Then if he grows out of the egyptians, you could change it easily. Perhaps you could make a pyramid shaped bean bag for the floor? Have fun what ever you do.0

If you paint the room orange, I think you'll be having to do it again very quickly.
How about going for a neutral 'sand' colour for the Egypt theme and look for some plain curtains and bedding which you could decorate with Egyptial pictures/writing or maybe a camel? There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.
Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.
MSE Aim: To have more "thanks" than "posts"! :T0 -
I would go for some kind of muslin type drapes for the windows, with maybe a black out blind in cream/ sand?
Possibly a stone effect lino on the floor?0 -

Seems to have some good ideas here, some are quite extravagant though!0 -
What about putting a small hook in the ceiling above the bed and suspend a tent (or some lightwieght beige material) to the corners of the bed to make it look like a pyramid..0

Don't know if this is any use but I've just found this on ebay - that and sandy coloured walls would look very Egyptian!0

Wow! Thank you all for your fabulous ideas, and the links are great! I agree that the sand colour will be better than orange, and with either posters or stencils, and some plain dye bedding/curtains I'm sure we can achieve a decent result. Its amazing how other peoples ideas can make a difficult idea seem achievable!!0
