If you think it's bad now ... just wait!! The government are cutting 25% of staff and refusing to believe that there is a problem! We already have over 1million pieces of post on hand and we're nowhere near the 25% reduction.

All together now - If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.... why is nobody clapping???

Well, Tax Credits do seem too good to be true don't they? For many families, they really benefit from this. I was amazed when I found out what we're entitled to.

Will they be closing a call centre somewhere, or is just anyone in for the sack?

Just to say welcome Maestro - very brave of you to let us know you have knowledge, mwwhhhahaha :D

Posters who work for/have worked for any of the benefits departments, Utility companies, banks etc are a great source of help and reassurance for so many members. Good to have you on board.
    Integrity is a dying art!:p
  • Hi Waltons
Tax Creds do seem too good... but they are true!! They are a superb idea. It's the administration of them that is a nightmare. Because of the way it is calculated, everyone is almost guarenteed to get an overpayment at some point in their Tax Creds life. Hey, even I got one!!! And I know the trick of adding 5% on to your estimate of earnings to allow for pay rises.

Which offices are closing? You should find that most of the Call Centres (they now call them Enquiry Centres) will stay open. The closures are already happening in the smaller offices. In my area (which I cannot name if I wish to keep my job!) two offices have already gone and a third is to follow. I have already changed my job description once and now I'm on the 'hit list' again - I may not have a job within the next 12 months.
  • Hi Welshcakes

I am more than happy to help out anywhere that I can - I know that because we have a pathetic computer system (greatly improved on the one we first had though!!!!) and such a high turnover of staff manning Helplines, that mistakes are inevitable.

Glad to be on board - and one thing you can be certain of... If I don't know the answer, I don't guess! Too many numpties do that already.

That's a good trick!! Saves being overpaid and struggling the following year, doesn't it?

Can I ask, how often does the CSA get involved with the Tax Credits?

Hi i was overpayed about £800, they stopped the ctc when i applied for IS, but i was told by the jobcentre that they made an agreement with the government that they couldnt just stop them, they had to keep on paying, i managed to get my payments re-instated as 'additional payments' where they paid me 90% of what i would usually get.
This tax year they have done the same, adjusted my paymets so thy recover the overpayment by reducing my payments by 10%. I work now part time and it's ben the same, i get 90% of what i should.

paticular anyone who has had payments from wtc directly who has been told they have been getting wtc in there paypacket, but hasnt....

i am been stung for 2670.78 which 2 years later has paid back 2511.00 back....
  • Hi

Just one further word of advice ... keep a log of all calls you make to Tax Credits - a lot of people posting on forums have said that HMRC (Revenue & Customs) have denied knowledge of calls being made. These calls will also appear on your phone bill - this is excellent evidence for backing up the fact that you contacted them.

Regarding the overpayment - if it refers to the pariod when you and your partner were together, then it will be recoverable from you both - don't let them try to saddle you with the total overpayment.
