Online train ticket reservations

I don't know if anyone has the same problem but whenever I purchase a seat and select front or back in the reservation section, I never get reserved seats which is a complete pain in the !!!!!! on a Friday commute home.

Someone at Lancaster train station said all seats are "airline" now and thats why front and back options dont give you a reserved ticket.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Not all seats are "Airline"; however front and backs are only at tables which they like to keep (understandably) for groups of three or four. On the plus side, airline seats have a lot more legroom.
Next time you're on a train make a note of which way different seat numbers face. Then you can ask for a specific number.
    Can I help?
