Central Heating Thermostat Temperature Question

Im wondering if someone could help me.

Am I right in thinking that when you turn the dial on your thermostat and it clicks, the point at which it clicks is the temperature it is reading.

The reason I ask is over the last 6 months of actually using it I have noticed that it always clicks at 20 even when the house is freezing, if the heating is on it wont come on unless I knock the thermostat past 20 and if I set it below this the radiators go off and the house goes freezing cold and I know for a fact that there is no way it could be 20.

I just want o check that im right in thinking this before I get someone out to it, not that im putting it on yet but id like to get it sorted before I need it.

Thanks

Yes, I think so. We had a new thermostat which was electronic with time zones and everything. £50 but it was worth it because if you turn the heating up it will then go back to the temperature it is supposed to be at the next time zone, therefore you don't leave it on all night by mistake.

    Good luck

Sounds like a faulty thermostat to me.

Thing is we only had central heating fitted in December 2007, it could have been like this since it was fitted and we just didnt notice, no wonder we have a huge bill for gas.

Just sounds like a faulty stat sticking at around 20C. You can easily change it yourself, basic stats are around £15-£20.

I agree with macman, it's just like changing a plug. Very easy. A plumber/electrician will charge a fortune!
