IVA and renting...is it possible!?

  • Hello all
Am having the same problem. I entered into an IVA about 4 years ago, and I paid it fine for up to 3 years, but I became so depressed with having no life, no holidays and struggling, then I got made redundant and fell into arrears with my rent. Since then, I have made a few payments to the IVA but I no longer pay it regularly. I told them I wanted to end the IVA, and possibly go bankrupt as I felt it was easier than being in the IVA! I really regret taking out the IVA. They have been rude to me on the phone and hassled me non-stop to the point of making me ill and they will not accept that I want it to end, so I had no choice but to just stop paying it and let be whatever will be. However, now, I am a single person expecting her first baby and am currently living with parents in a tiny room. I am able to rent privately, I have money saved and I have the money to move straight in, have a really well paid job, have proof of that and everyhing, but Keysafe referencing company told my E/A that they will not even accept a guarantor! They want 6 months rent up front, which I dont have right now! I was honest about the IVA from the start. I have never had any CCJ or judgements though and have NEVER not paid my rent. However, it was the Landlords themselves that have decided to override the 6-month rent deicsion and base it on my guarantor, so just waiting for my guarantor checks (with mother) to go through this week! Hoping it all works out!

I find it ridiculous that in this economy, if you have a job and good references and money, you still cannot even rent somewhere - it is ridiculous. What are you meant to do?

The council housing lists are too long and to be honest, some of them quite shabby. I know I am lucky to have my parents, but its just not fair that I cannot rent if I can pay for myself. I could understand it if my references were bad, but they're not. Have never fleed from a property or had issues with unpaid rent.
