Help! Transferred money into a closed account!

Hi all,
A couple of months ago I closed an account I had with the Halifax, and opened a different one with them.

My sister transferred some money to me yesterday, and when it didnt arrive she realised she had transferred it to my old account, which is now closed. What can I do? The transfer seems to have gone through fine on her end, which is very strange since the account is dead.

Thanks!

It'll probably bounce back to her account in due course.

However, why not call Halifax and ask them? Better still, get them to call you...

Thanks for the link - You're right, it will return back to her account.

At the worst it'll be sat in a suspense account waiting for you to get in touch.

LOL, I always wondered what happened to the interest earned on these bounce (suspense) accounts? I used to work for an insurer and dealt with the bounce account there, at times it had like well over £5m in it, thing is legally the money didn;t belong to us so I always wondered who got the interest? lol

Obviosuly the difference in my work was deceased people with pensions/policies but no next of kin etc....

anyway, bet it makes a bit of dosh over the year (maybe it pays for the [STRIKE]w@nkers[/STRIKE] bankers to go skiing or bonuses lol)

The Halfax always backdated the amount in to the account it came out of. So the customer got the interest, the bank got nothing.

    Other banks? No idea!
