Hi
I have an old windows xp 'e machines' with set up as :
1.7ghz, pentium 4 processor, 256mb DDR, 256kb cache, 3d AGP graphics,
My son wants to use it for internet surfing we have tried a buffalo G usb wireless adapter, it worked intially but now keeps dropping the signal every few seconds. We have wireless - by Sky through a sagem router.
Any ideas apart from hard wiring, to get a better signal?
PS We want to re-format the hard drive too, but the disc that came with the machine just wont work - help!!
kind regards

The USB wireless adapter from buffalo could be just playing up, I have a Belkin and D-Link one and both have the same problem you describe, it might have something to do with usb controler drivers but it could be lack of power to the usb device/missing drivers or software, a lose connection as they do seem rather big to fit into some usb ports...
Is that an emachines 760? Sounds like the one I used to have, the disks need to go into the DVD drive and not the cd one (or vice verser I cant remember lol!) and then restart the pc and it will boot from the disc and format/fresh copy of XP.0
