painting a kitchen

i'm planning on decorating my kitchen, but first i have a couple of questions.
1- do i need to use a special kitchen paint for the walls?
2- and as i cant afford to have new tiles, is the paint you can buy for tiles any good?

You don't really have to use a special paint, we've used ordinary emulsion and it's been ok.
However, the specifically made paint is good. We painted the outside of our garage with leftover kitchen & bathroom paint 8 years ago, and it's still as good as new.

As for your tiles, do you really hate them a lot? It might be an idea to give them a real good clean and polish?
Tiling paint is ok as long as you are careful.

I haven't tried Wilkos but my mom said it's ok, she's used it.
I've used B&Q's own and it's good too. Though I do prefer Crown and it takes the knocks. You don't want to end up painting again in 6 months because the quality is poor? Better to spend an extra fiver now than have to do it all over again.

Are your tiles really naff? Maybe if you get a colour paint to compliment them, they will look better? What colour are they?

Mmm see what you mean. You could set yourself a challenge? Paint the surrounding walls in a nice bright sunny colour, see if it looks better.
Then maybe set yourself a challenge to save up for new ones next year.
Meanwhile paint them or learn to live with them for now?

Mine need doing. I had my tiling done by my brother-in-law. 'he's a good tiler' etc etc. But the beautiful picture tiles I chose for above the cooker are not central, they're too far to the right and the whole thing looks tat now. But I have to live with it a while longer....:o

Use normal softsheen or midsheen instead of the Kitchen & Bathroom paint.
K&B paint is softsheen/midhseen (depending on the brand). You'll pay more for a label that says K&B when a softsheen is all it is!

Check it out if you're in doubt but you'll not get K&B paint in a Decorator's Merchant... See, B&Q think we're gullable... maybe we are :)
