just moved house & set up my sky plus & dish...lined the dish up compareing it to a neighbers eg,same height/angle ect
all i keep getting is error no29 no satelite signal is being received...
the only thing i can think of is the dish slightly out of line...are they really that sensitive & have to be mm precise when setting the dish up

you've set your dish at a totally different angle. They need to be pointing to a 28.2 degrees in the sky, not at the same angle as your neighbours.
i have 2 dishes on the back of my house, one dish looks to be a different angle to the other when looking at them, because it's the way your vision works. so if you have them matching, yours is pointing to slightly different direction.
now you've erected it yourself, in the hope to save a few quid, why not call a independent sky intstaller, to realign the dish for about £40.
or, you're on the ladder on the phone, and someone is in the lounge on the signal strength screen and see if it eventually locks..
there are 5 options for setting a dish, up, down, left, right, angle so it isn't as easy as just matching someone elses0 -
and anyway, why didn't you use the sky moving service that they offer... isn't that free?0

I have no technical expertise but managed to set up my own dish with just a compass.
Markymoo has given incorrect information to you. The satellite you are aiming at is 28.2 degrees east of south, or 152.2 degrees.
Aim your dish there and then look at the angle the neighbours dishes are pointing up and use that as your starting point for tilting upwards.
You can get a signal meter from a shop like Maplin, but I found it was possible to do it without. Saved myself £60 by doing it myself.0 -
thanks for replys....thought i would try my self as sky wanted £60 to move it,1 i dont want to pay sky £60 to do what i thought was an easy job, also il be moving again in 2 mnths

apologies for getting it very slightly wrong...
it really does depend where you live to exactly the right dish set up...
if i set my dish up to 152.2 degrees then it would be kinda out...
this website will give you some details of what you need -
http://www.uksatellitehelp.co.uk/2007/08/12/satellite-alignment-calculator-v2/
my house, needs the following alignment
Elevation:23.0°
Azimuth (true): 144.7°
Azimuth (magn.): 147.4°
LNB skew: -12.6°
which is about 5 degrees off what the actual (magnetic) reading is... it's weird how the earth moves etc.

bingo,,after setting the angle to the original setting from when it was in my old house & making sure the bubble was dead center in the level it all works, turned out to be a 15 min job insted of the 3 hr one when i was mucking about with it the other day0
