RIght, time for an update.

Just had a e-mail from this company saying that they are willing to send me a workstation, so I asked whether it would be of the same spec / value of the one that I should have received.

On the reply, he has put he is undecided on the spec of the system he is going to supply and that they are doing this solely out of their goodwill.

All advice / ideas welcome, as it sounds a bit slippery to me!

They had told you that you had won a specific competition, it was not your fault that didn't organise it properly and ended up with 2 winners. BUT there again a workstation is a workstation and if you'll make use of it regardless you still come away with something i suppose. What did Ed have to say about it?

I would ask for the same spec - that's what they told you in the first place. Now that they have offered you something else I would say they are admitting liability.

If you have any problems then contact Edwin at the ISP - I won a comp last year worth about £700 and they gave that away to someone else. Edwin sorted it all out and although I accepted a slightly different prize that was really through choice.

I would reply to them saying you want confirmation of what they are offering, i.e spec, value etc.

I haven't contacted Ed yet as I thought I'd do the decent thing and give them a chance to sort it out.

I'll give this chap a ring on Monday and see what happens.
