I agree about talking to agents!!!! Just rang the EA that we placed an offer with a week ago to find out what is happening, was told last week they wanted it to be marketed for a week. Its a week today, rung them, got a quite rude reply of "YOU were told to wait, a week, and we would contact you!!!"

Pardon me for wanting a buy a house you are selling! I thought that was what they were paid to do!

Please tell me you took them down a peg? No chance I would let some one speak to me like that!! (as my name suggests)

Them "YOU were told to wait, a week, and we would contact you!!!"
Me "How many days in your f***ing week? best you get the branch manager at your desk as I will be down in 10 minutes so you can apologise in person to my face."

I'd then want written proof that your offer was passed to the vendor.

Don't miss out on house because you can't stand the EA but don't let them get away with being :naughty:

When I moved into my current flat (FTB) the previous owners had left us a nice note wishing us luck and a bottle of wine. That was a nice gesture I thought, and as much as I wanted to know about them. We didn't have their contact details and got quite a lot of calls for them for a while after; I could only refer these callers to the EA. Made me think if the couple had gone on the run though, not informing their friends of their move!

well, I phoned the estate agents today, and asked them to offer our contact details to them.

They did that, and the estate agents phoned back to let us know they were very grateful that we had done that, appreciated it and are still very keen on the house. However, they didn't reciprocate the gesture by offering theirs back!

The only thing that's bothering me now is that their mortgage application was sent off last Wednesday, but I still haven't heard from the valuation/survey people, to let me know when they intend to come round. Should I be worried yet, or leave it a bit longer?

We are FTB and hoping to exchange tomorrow and complete next week having only started whole process about 6 or 7 weeks ago!! We had only viewed the property once and put our offer in straight away as we knew it was the house we wanted in the area we wanted. Offer was accepted and formal mortgage application, valuation, solicitors, mortgage offer all set in place. The only snag we had was that I wasnt completely sure that what EA was telling us regarding vendors time-scales was completely true and was never convinced she (EA) knew what she was going on about (see a previous thread of mine where we had not received mortgage offer but EA told us to give notice on our rented property - we have 3 children!!!!). Anyhow we went and saw vendors last week and sat down with them, exchanged telephone numbers, and agreed that we would all push our respective solicitors for exchange this week and completion next week and have just checked in with each other for a couple of minutes every other day to check whether any of our respective solicitors are causing a hold up that we dont know about. It seems to be working so far and as i say we should (fingers crossed) exchange tomorrow.
For us, the proper chat with our vendors (not conducted through EA) and having each others telephone numbers has made things a lot easier and has meant (hopefully I speak for vendors as well) that we are more in control of what is going on rather than hearing it second hand - when EA can be bothered to return our calls.
I'm sure that sometimes it might not be the right thing to do (as previous relpies have suggested) but certainly in our case it was the best thing we did.

Hope that helps and keep your fingers crossed for us tomorrow annd next week
