John lewis undersold policy

I bought a sony micro hifi system for £146.75 last week from john lewis due to the 2 year guarantee. However I had noticed the same system in both comet and pc world the same day for £139.99. I thought id buy from JL due to the extra year guarantee and know that they price match with other stores.
I now regret bothering, as they said I had to pay the full price up front and fill in an undersold form which they will investigate and then refund me the difference. Today though they've called me and said pc world doesnt have the item in stock and its not on display, the day i bought it i can assure you it was on display in pc world and in comet for £139. They are also saying I never told them comet had it as well so they cant look into comet's prices.
Now pc world are selling it for the higher price of £146.75 so they are saying the prices are the same. What should i do, I know its only £7 but its the principle of it. I'm tempted to box it back up and take it back for a refund (as I will probably go for proper hi-fi components setup soon anyway).

Is it not going to cost you more than £7 to take it back to the shop, when you take into account parking, petrol, your time etc?Gone ... or have I?0 -
JL dont actually visit the stores to see items on the shelves, they go by a computerised print out. If you rang them to complain then it is likely that they will have forgotten but if you put something in writing then write to them again. At least give them a chance to investigate and refund the difference.0

well i decided the sound quality isnt as good as i'd like anyway so when i can afford it i'll get proper hi fi seperates so for now i'll carry on using headphones. is that a good enough reason for refund saying its not good enough quality or is there a better reason to use.
i will be exchanging it for an expensive apple laptop for my mate, its going on my card but hes giving me the cash. its a cheap way of doing a balance transfer...avoiding the 3% fee lol0 -
Do they price match even though the John Lewis one comes with an extra years guarantee?0

To be perfectly honest, I don't think that "It's not good enough quality" would be a fair enough reason to take it back. I can't see the store accepting that.0

Yes they do, I successfully got a price match on my Sony PC with extended warranty. However since I made my claim, I have noticed that they have modified their terms to "we will price match any local store"."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Oh yes they will. JL are pretty good at refunding if the customer isn't satisfied. It's one of the reasons their reputation has remained so good for so long. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
yes they did refund and didnt even check the contents of the box! i will be more cautious next time i consider buying an item at JL and expecting them to price match. I thought it would be more straightforward.0

It is simple. You fill in a form and it gets checked out. Only a complete idiot would take somebody's word for it and go "oh, ok, I'll knock money off if you SAY it's cheaper somewhere else."
There are so many people who would abuse it and even more who would get it wrong and think two different items are the same.
They check within an 8 mile area and will match if the item is available for sale. Companies like richer sounds often advertise that they have a really sought after item for a stupidly low price, but only have a very tiny amount so the item that they claim is available for cheap ISN'T and JL can't go about matching prices that aren't true because that'd just be taking the !!!!.
If you didn't want to pay up front you could have reserved the item and filled in the undersale.
You shouldn't have got a full refund though. If you're returning an electrical item just because you changed your mind, the actual policy is a refund minus 10% of the purchase price.0
