i've been using sodium chlorate for years on my block paved drive, have to treat it about twice a year and it does wipe out everything which is why you have to be a bit careful around lawns.

usually buy mine from Wynnstay stores, they usually have offers on 2x5kg tubs for £20, which is a bit cheaper than wilko's £2.39 per kg. the Prob with our local wilko's is that the shelves are always empty as soon as spring arrives and weeds start growing.

but advice to anyone who uses sodium chlorate is to stock up as much as you can. fill ur garages and sheds with the stuff because good old brussels is banning the sale of it in july 2009 and you're not allowed to use or store it after july 2010, but i wont tell if you dont!! ;)

oh and it is pretty nasty stuff, i quote:

a non-selective contact herbicide, killing all green plant parts and has a soil-sterilant effect. It may persist in soil for 6 months to 5 years, depending on rate applied, soil type, fertility, organic matter, moisture, and weather conditions. It is highly toxic to animals and humans, breaking down red blood cells. It forms explosive mixtures so products sold as weedkillers have Sodium Chloride added to inhibit flammability.

    NICE.

Thanks for the tips on the sodium chlorate.
The last lot of roudup I bought was over £20.
  • Doing a search for this brought up this old thread however I've just got a bottle of this from a local store and it was £1.99 so cashback £1.50 minus a stamp is nice for expensive weedkiller :D Yet to try it on the weeds though....:rotfl:
