Furniture "dents" in new carpet

We had new (expensive) carpet fitted a couple of months ago. I am very pleased with it. It is 80/20 wool blend and very thick and we had the best quality underlay. It is a dream to walk on but my problem is that if I move a piece of furniture, such as my sofa, there is a deep mark in the pile.
I have tried putting an ice cube on the dent and it has helped but I can still see where the sofa was.
Anyone got a solution, please?

In all honesty, I've found mine to have mysteriously disappear after about a week or two.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0

I think it is always a problem with good quality thick carpets and heavy furniture, if you do not leave things like chairs, settees, tables etc., too long in one position and move them around a few inches every week the pile does appear to recover, you just have to accept that things like TV stands, display cabinets or bookcases etc. will cause dents which over a period of time become more or less permanent.0

I too have this problem in my bedroom on good quality 80/20 wool mix carpet, fitted earlier this year, after moving some of the furniture around. The dents have reduced somewhat over the past couple of months but haven't disapeared.
I keep meaning to try the ice cube 'cure' but haven't got around to it yet. I know the trick with the ice cube is supposed to be to crush it & leave it to melt & be absorbed by the carpet, did you do this?
Also I've found this tip online, which I've not tried yet either, perhaps you could give it a go?
You can vacuum a dent in the carpeting over and over, and the stubborn dent remains. Even very old dents in the carpeting that have been vacuumed dozens of times are still visible. Don’t bother vacuuming dents. The dents will remain indefinitely. Simply dampen a bath towel or a hand towel, and place the towel over the indentations. Gently iron the indentations until the towel is dry. Remove the towel, and just like magic, the indentations should be gone. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Hi Cattie
I did not crush my ice cube, just placed over the dent and left it to melt and to dry. It has improved things somewhat but there is a sort of shadow where the sofa's feet have been.
I am a bit too scared to try the ironing method. I think I would prefer to live with the slight dents that a scorch mark on my expensive carpet. It has got to last a long time believe me! If you have got more courage than me on your bedroom carpet, let me know how you get on. Thanks anyway for the idea.0 -
Steam will lift it from either an iron or steam cleaner.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
