new flat, need advice

Hi all,

As a student me and a couple of friends have just started to rent our first flat, been trying to work out the cheapest method and after reading the posts on here think that the best option is to pay the Primus Home Savers option at £10.49 a month. We probably won't use the phone all that much, main calls will be in the evenings and to home phones. We see little point in worrying about overriding .

What I'd like to know is how I go about this, our flat already has a dialling charge so according to BT we shouldn't need to pay a reconnection charge. Do I need to call BT first to sort out the reconnection or since I'm going to be paying the line rental to Primus should I only call them? Or if there's something else that I need to do please let me know:rotfl:I don't have a clue.

We also intending to go with o2 for internet, I'm in charge of all this being the one who uses the internet the most and understands whats offered best, however minimal that understanding is.

We also are trying to stay out of as many long term contracts as possible as although we don't hope to move for the next couple of years there is obviously no guarantees. So trying to minimise disconnection charges.

Any help about what I need to do and in what order are greatly appreciated and if anyone think what I'm planning is the wrong way to go about things then please speak up.

Cheers, I'm purely in charge of the decisions regarding the phoneline etc, the payment arrangements are already sorted. But trust isn't really an issue here, We've all known each other for a long time.

What do you mean by this?

"O2 may need a BT line so find out if Primus rental fits with the O2 service"

As far as I'm aware both will use a BT line, is there issues here? Sorry, as I said I have little idea.

And yeah we should be fine with O2 as far as I can see.

Have you thought about not having a landline for internet?

You could get cable broadband only (no telephone) or a USB mobile broadband dongle from your network. Both options cut out the cost of a landline.

If you do need to make the odd call, you can use skype on your PC or your mobile?

Don't forget quidco... £120 for cable and £30-50 approx for a USB broadband dongle from 3, O2, T-Mobile, Orange or Vodafone. Even Virgin.
