It is absolutely vital that children are taught how government is meant to work and how government actually works. The sooner the process starts the better.
The MSP should be congratulated for taking the time.

It is more likely that he was asked there, maybe to present a prize or to open a new section paid for by the Scottish Parliament etc.

No that was definitely not the case.

And I'm sure she would have been interested in a traffic policeman came in to her school and talked about that. I think it is comparable to an MSP visiting.

I see your point but we will have to agree to disagree on the part about MSP/Policeman being comparable. ;):)

It might also give them something to aspire to.

 With the state of our MP's at the moment I'm not sure that's a worthy aspiration. ;)

    Point taken though. :)

Thank you everyone. Regardless of whether we agree or not, I do appreciate your replies and I will admit to my unease lessening after reading your points.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Brilliant opportunity for them IMO.

But then, I also think all children should follow a handful of court cases from the first pre trial hearing through to acuital/sentencing at some point in early secondary school. We are too removed from understanding our systems and responsibilites. :)

On a day where about 30% of the eloctorate available to vote bothered, it seems a wonderful prospect.

I agree with the above - it's a great opportunity to talk to someone who has an unusual job, and to hear about the law-making process from someone who is involved first-hand.

OKm they ight not be from your favourite party, but I doubt very much if they were there to talk policies and manifestoes.

If a nurse/firefighter/metalworker came to school to tell them about thier job, would you react the same?;)

I think that anything that helps to teach children about life and give them a view of the real world is a good idea. I doubt very much that anything too political was talked about, he probably just talked about his job and the types of things he has to do.

Particularly after recent events, and also being as I don't agree with us being so heavily involved with the European Union, I wasn't going to vote yesterday, although I normally do, but me and DH went and took DD and DS with us (6 and 3) and that was the main reason I went, to take them along so they can see what happens. I do think it's important, and as long as there's no "party politics" involved then I see no harm in the MSP's visit.

My brother went to a local private school, and when they wanted to arrange a trip to the Houses of Parliament via our then MP (this is going back a while), he refused to arrange it as he was a Labour MP - he had no such qualms arranging visits for the local comprehensive school children. A shining example to us all!!!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
