wedding dresses, how much will you be spending?

i saw a few other posts but not relating to actual costs.
i was worried about these costs but my fiancee (who is chinese) is getting her mother to buy it in china and it looks fantastic, typical flowing white dress with a white ribbon, costing 1000RMB (100quid). top quality from the photos ive seen.

as a male with no experience, i thought these sorts of things in this country would cost up to 1000quid.

or is it rude to ask? am i being a cheapskate?

yes the dress is expensive, yes you can spend thousands, but you can also spend very little.
quite a few of the brides to be here have ordered dresses from china for a fraction of the cost they would be here.

but more to the point.....youve seen pictures of your bride to be's dress??? :o

    Hi Dave

Lots of brides on here are getting there dresses from China via dressmaking companies over there. They basically copy a design from a well know designer and sometimes make their own designs aswell. The shops for example.., Landy, Milly, Sweetsend. If you'd like to make a comparison the equivalent (original) dresses from a stockist in this country would cost upwards of £800 but from China as little as £100 for a custom made to order gown..

PS. Why have you seen your future brides dress?!!! I'd never let my OH see mine!

I've bought mine from Monsoon and it was £160 - not a bridal dress but even the bridal gowns were only £200. I think you can buy a very cheap one if you're willing to look around or think outside the box.

And my OH watched me try mine on, and paid for it!

i dont believe in the 'cant see the dress before the day' thing.
our whole lives are somewhat intertwined so it would be difficult to not see it!

    thanks for the responses

    Hi Dave!

I spent £150 for my dress in a proper wedding shop in its sale :)

I did see one I loved for £700 but couldn't justify spending that even though OH was fine with it :o

I'm currently bidding for mine on ebay - should be less than £30 incl p&p.

I wouldn't mind OH seeing my dress but I am rubbish at keeping secrets and am trying my hardest to see if I can keep this one just to see if I can!

I just like sharing things with him particularly when I'm excited about something!

Mine is £850 - and although it is a lot of money I absolutely love it! And to make things better my lovely mum and dad offered to buy it for me!

I haven't found a dress yet - haven't even begun looking for one. I know i cannot afford to spend more than £300 so if i cannot not find the one in a bridal shop then its definatly a chinese import for me!!
