    only bantering... :)

he is a v.good player, a good buy - not sure about the £18 million as i said. Insua was also away in the youth tournament and Dossena had been away at the Confederations Cup so were not available. so he was the only real option.

i'm sure Benitez will be buying another couple of his fave £6 million players... no need to worry Liverpool fans...

The big clubs have to pay big fees irrespective of the player. Johnson has improved over the past couple of years.

Prefer to spend my time watching the lower leagues. Where the result isn't a formality. Championship was very average quality last year, and league 1, well where have the defenders gone ! Shocking standard at times.

i'm surprised anyone would think it was peanuts... paying £18 million for a right back who has a very low marketing potential is a bit too expensive in any market...
    .

Getting ready for the stricter rules on the champions league relating to "home grown" players.

Decent English players will shoot up in value.

the waiter should concentrate on his youth policy instead of running his "Rafa Shadow Academy" alongside the Liverpool Academy undermining the people that were in charge of the Youth Academy..

they just got a spanking by Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup Final this season.
£18 million or some of that could have been better spent elsewhere if he wanted to produce English players...

Yes and we all now Arsenals youth are not purchased 16 year olds from abroad and other clubs.:D

I don't think many clubs can boast many true youths getting through (english players being at the club from around 8 years old and not just stolen from others.)

But come to think of it how many English youth players have Arsenal had come in to their team?

Theo was a purchase? any more?

maybe 2/3 years ago. but you should have a look at the Arsenal youth team and the reserves now - 90% english

9 academy produced players started in that FA Youth Cup final, a few others on the bench. there youth policy is excellent and is now very English not foreign based anymore.

    i support/supported Liverpool by the way :)

I agree but it is still the main stay of many premiership clubs, they steal the best youths from other clubs.
I have nothing against any of the clubs (well Man U:)) but the true meaning of youth football (local lads) as been detroyed by the need to be instantly successful.
Every lower league team is always plundered of their best youths so yes the best get trained at the best clubs.
But how many are tossed away in the mean time:(

Arsenal are lucky that they have a bigger catchment area than most.
They also are lucky that immigration is larger in London so are able to get boys from different ethnic backgrounds and this reflects in their quality and style of their players.

if you can't run and are not athletic you will not be a modern day premiership footballer unfortunately.

    Tell that to peter crouch.

I disagree on that one, remember the champions league final barca outplayed man U and did not have to go hell for leather for 90 mins.

If you have the skill you don't have to be stronger and fitter than the rest.
    But it helps:)

To add to that Liverpool youth look to be 90% English, and they were the only other team in the final:)
