Excel page margins problem

I have an Excel document that is set to have page margins equal on both sides (left and right margins set through print preview).

The problem is that when I print to a laser printer, the margins on the paper come out different. The left margin is much small than the right margin.

On top of this, when I print the document into Adobe pdf and then print to the laser from Adobe, the margins come out even more different to if I print directly from Excel.

So I can't simply adjust the print preview settings until the hardcopy is the same because the margins in hardcopy directly from Excel comes out with different to the hardcopy in pdf.

All of which is very annoying because I thought Excel was supposed to be 'what you see is what you get'.

Is there anyway around this triangle of discrepancies?

Thanks in advance,

L

BTW - I've also asked this question on Excel forums and had no reply...

Instead of using print preview to set the margins up try using 'file' 'page setup'

Make sure the papre size is correct, most cases A4.

Use the margins to set at the same distance from page edge. Maybe try selecting 'centre on page Horizontally'

Using centre horizontially should work. As previous poster said go through FILE & PAGE SET UP.

I've tried the centre horiztonally function but it shifts everything much more toward the right..!!

It looks nowhere near centre - I was closer before.

Very strange why a centre function in Excel does not work....

  • Another way around is to select the data you want to print and click on File > Print Area > Set Print Area. Then click on Print Preview and click on the Setup button. Under the Scaling heading either select adjust to 100% or choose fit to page 1 page wide by 1 page tall. Click on the Margins tab and make sure that the left and right margins are the same and tick the center on page horizontally/vertically as desired.

You must have formatting in empty cells which is automatically being printed. Click on view page layout and it will show you what it's printing on page 1. If it's picking up empty columns either 'clear all' in those columns or set print area as described above. Trouble is with settig print area if you add columns you have to remember to increase your print area.
