That's good to hear. We have had ours 23 years now, still look good.

Well nearly 2 years on and the solid wood we went for still looks great, no black marks or mildew even around the sink.

    Thanks for the update it.

What wood did you go for in the end?
  • Beech block from Howdens, havent really given them much care either.
  • We've just gone for oak block from Howdens. My wife is asking about an integrated Washer Dryer, but i'm a bit concerened about the effect of condensation on the underside of the worktop when using the Dryer facility. Am I just being paranoid?

We only have a dishwasher under ours, no problem there.

Our daughter had an integrated washer/dryer under a regular worktop, again no problems.

You can get protective plastic strips to stick to the underside of the worktops to protect from condensation.

You should also ensure that the complete underside and all edges of the worktop are at least as well treated as the top, minimum 3 coats of Danish Oil or similar. Even more coats would be better, this is an area you can only treat before the tops are fitted

Our dryer is vented, do condenser type ones put out a lot of damp air into the room?

Just as an aside.....washer/driers are not as good as having the 2 separate appliances.
  • i fitted solid beech worktops a couple of weeks ago, so although i can't comment on how they will hold up, I do have to say that don't let the maintenance of oiling them put you off... it is SO quick!

it's pretty much as quick as it would be to just wipe down with a cleaning spray! so no hassle at all on the oiling front
