direct line offer and information?

Hi
Direct Line offer looks really good, BUT...
I've put my details in, and yes they are cheaper, but they ask far less details than anyone else, and they don't ask if you've had a claim in recent yrs, which I have- this yr on contents....
Will this bite me on the bum if I need to claim?? And are the amounts they insure you for accurate, loads of websites ask you stuff like how much cover do you want, or what is rebuild cost- not much asked on DL.

I want to save a few bob, but house insurance is really important, I'm with Halifax and they've been reasonable in customer service, and I'm not sure what DL are like? Any help?

    Did you read the assumptions?

Never had home insurance refused, cancelled, or declared null and void.
Never had special terms imposed to buildings or contents insurance.
Never been convicted of any criminal offence (other than motoring convictions) or have any prosecutions pending.
Not suffered more than two incidents of loss, damage or liability, whether insured or not during the last three years.
Not suffered a burglary within the last 12 months.

If any of the assumptions are incorrect you should call us to obtain an insurance quote.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

The Direct Line website quotes with a very high excess (£200) and does not include extras such as Accidental Damage and cover away from home (You have to physically select them).

This is probably why they are cheaper than other companies if you have asked the other companies for cover including extras and / or with a reasonble excess

I reduced my excess to £0 and it incresed the policy price by £3! Bargain. I also dont need cover away from home, as dont have a laptop, Camera or anything like nice jewlery. So does me fine.

Well done for reducing the excess, as you can see these big excesses often don't save you much money but save the Insurers a lot in claims
  • Thanks for responses- I did read assumptions, but somehow I missed the one that mentioned the 2 claims in 3 yrs bit?!?! Temporary blindness! I re-read it 2 or 3 times too!

As for the accidental damage thing, the PLUS policy does seem to include it as I see. That also seems to offer free travel insurance, but I wonder if that is for the whole family, or me as an individual??
