Remote Assistance

Hi There
I noticed there is huge number of members with PC problems that could be fixed remotely (over the internet) rather than unplugging their pc / laptop etc and taking it to a shop and being billed accordingly.
However I am aware that most people will be hesitant or suspicious of remote control and worried about remote helpers doing damage or abusing their systems.
So could we not setup some sort of designated, trusted remote helpers to help these people?
regards

A nice idea, but who would be liable if things went wrong?Gone ... or have I?0

Sound great in theory however as mentioned it could be a nightmare. Even in the real world and talking from experiences fixed peoples pc's you get blame for things going wrong when you leave or they want you immediately to fix them after you done work and pc working fine, no thank you.0

hi guys
feedback much appreciated
couldn't some disclaimer be set up or a system image taken once the work has been done so that we could always revert back to a "working copy"?

It sounds like a lot of hassle. Even if there was no fault on the part of the 'expert', there is nothing to stop somebody taking you to small claims.Gone ... or have I?0 -
hi there
why would someone take you to"small claims" if you fixed their system and if you couldnt then you always had a point to refer back to?

Some people are experts and some are not but think they are. The person needing help isn't in an ideal position to judge which is the case. And there may also be problems on the helper's PC which will infect the first one. Even if the work is done free, it may take longer than expected and be unfair to the helper. Or some problems will not be fixable by remote methods anyway, in which case the person with the problem may feel aggrieved.
In a world where people are becoming more and more litigious, this sort of thing would be fraught with potential problems. Whose insurers, if there even were any, would be covering any liabilities and disputes which emerge? Trading on here is not allowed, and members are also advised against personal contact with people who may not be who they appear to be. I'd say that PC remote assistance falls into the same sort of area.0 -

Fair point
but what i was suggesting was a dedicated team of verified helpers who could volunteer (not trading) to help remotely. and the remote session could only begin once some certain citeria was met.
but i understand the risks of security and abuse
as the forum thread title says "Suggestions"
but if it aint a good suggestion then bin it

Interesting but who would verify these people? I certainly would like to actually know anyone who had access to my pc rather than a stranger on the internet. Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama0
