Halogen or ceramic please help?

Options
Hi all

Need new hob, must be elec not gas. I was a flat one not raised up like my old one. I don't know the difference between ceramic flat hob and halogen flat hob and if one works better than another. I only have around £250 to spend. Also my hands are very damaged from rhuematoid so cannot have one with difficult knobs to turn. Would appreciate any help. But to reiterate my main question is what's difference between halogen and ceramic as they look the same on the websites. Thank you.

Halogen has a faster heat up time than ceramic. I suggest you might want to go have a look in the likes of Currys or Comet etc to see some hobs in the flesh so to speak. When we were lookin to buy, I was quite surprised at how stiff some of the knobs were on certain models. You could get an idea of what brands to look at then order online maybe? We ended up with a flat touch control version where we just slide our finger across the glass to increase the heat but these do tend to be pricey I'm afraid.

Halogen hobs only conduct heat when used with magnetic bottomed pans so you cannot burn yourself if you accidentaly touch the warm area. You can get a touch control (no knobs!!) ceramic hob from the CO-OP electrical shop online for £225 free p&p where Halogen hobs start at around £400.

I think you're getting mixed up with induction. An induction hob only conducts heat when a suitable pan is place on the hob. A halogen hob can be switched on at any time, with or without pan, and the residual heat lasts for a while afterwards, unlike induction which cools quickly.

I have a Baumatic hob that doesn't have any knobs just sensors pads that you touch to turn the ring on and to adjust the heat.
