  • let me see... I have:

    Gary Rhodes *3
    Nick Nairn
    Tara Ramsay
    Basics cookbook
2 books of recipes from different countries
"how to prepare and cook chicken" thingamabob
A huge book full of recipes collected from magazines/books/friends/family
(Maybe around 300 recipes that I have gone all through and decided to keep for the future...)
so 9 + my own collection in total....not bad.

I have Jamie's Italian book as well, but that one I'm giving as a present to a friend who has recently fallen in love with Italian food...

I must say I normally use the ones in my own collection book, but sometimes if I feel like trying something new or am looking for ideas, I read through the cookbooks. And I mean read. I mark interesting recipes with post-it notes, so if I need a new recipe quickly, I know exactly where to look!

:) I'm glad to hear people have so many cookbooks...I have been drooling after couple of new ones, but have always thought that I should do with the ones I have got... Might go and get Nigella Express and one from Gordon Ramsay ones now that I won't feel too bad :p
(I borrowed my friend's copy of Nigella and it had some really good recipes in it...copied some of them, but would quite like to have the book too...)

I stopped buying recipe books a few years ago. I now borrow them from the library, photocopy the one or two recipes that look good, and give them back. It keeps the addiction at bay.

I dread to think how many I've got - think double kitchen wall unit full to the brim (complete with seriously sagging shelves ) plus numerous boxes full dotted around the place.

In my defense though, I do only buy them from charity shops . Like others have said, I just enjoy reading them :D.

OH moans that I spend so much time reading cook books that I have no time left for cooking :o :rotfl::rotfl:

The problem is nowadays, cookery books aren't just full of recipes. I love books like Apples for Jam and Falling Cloudberries, Roast Figs Sugar Snow, A Tale of 12 Kitchens etc because I like to read the stories that go with the recipes and the photography is very evocative.

Then of course there are my Nigella and River Cottage books, my Dairy cookbooks, Good Housekeeping (2 copies, one from the late 50's/early 60's which was my parents and one I bought back in the 80's) as well as some vintage cookery books that I've picked up in charity shops and car boots. The Amish cookery one is interesting and the one on Sensible Cookery is a hoot, it tells you how to manage without servants! :rotfl:

I think I have eight shelves full, plus some in general bookshelves and then there are the ones which are beside my bed for when I can't sleep....quite a few really...I do use recipes from several regularly, others occasionally but couldn't dream of parting with any....oh, forgot the ones packed in workshop from when we moved 14 years ago, they are on my 'resurrection' list for this year!

If you don't use them then sell them or give them away on freecycle where they will be used. To keep 89 books for 5 or 6 recipes don't make sense. You could de-clutter and only keep the 5 or 6 books with the recipes you use. You will feel better if you get rid and it feels good to help other people.

I must admit to being a cookbookieholic too at last count I had 63 cook books and 10 diet cook books and 4 folders full of recipes cut out from magazines.
I do use them - In my house every Saturday is new recipe day but I think I will be about 70 by the time I've gone through every one I fancy.
