Title didnt explain that very well, but when i put google on the writing is massive, and when i put my virgin media page up the writings all overlapping and i cant read it, typing is still the same size, everything on here is the same size, web sites seem to be normal but the search on google is massive and writing, does that make sense:confused:
Any ideas whats happened, I have a feeling the kids have changed some setting somewhere:mad:
Ps Im not in safe mode, as that makes everything bigger not just some things.

Are you using Internet Explorer? You need to go to the 'view' menu at the top of your window, click it and go down to 'text size', and follow the arrow across. The text size is most likely set to large, so change it to medium or small

Do you have a mouse with a scroll wheel on it ? Holding down the CTRL key on your keyboard and scrolling the mouse wheel can trigger the Zoom Text function in Internet Explorer. I know it's fixed know but just so you know what may have caused it too :)

Set up a separate user account for them so they can't mess up your settings.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

By default you would setup an all access admin account, this means they can still mess everything up and even change your own login password.

Make sure it's a user level account and be prepared for lots of moaning when they cant do things they used to.

On a final note, kids (assuming they're not teenagers) should stick to games consoles..... A PC is NOT a toy!

My ex was horrified when I showed her how to access the internet history ( ctrl + h ) to see what the kids has been looking at on her PC!! it was only softcore, but at 8 years old?

She even lost all of her data once when they managed to get a very nasty boot sector virus onto her PC, one which killed my own laptop too when trying to repair the hard drive.

They click on and download bloody everything!

If that wasn't enough, your kids are actually safer wandering the streets alone, than they are on the internet. The internet is great, it's truly fantastic! but you really need a certain level of maturity and worldly experience to use it safely.

Umm... scaremongering much !?!?!?? That is media fuelled drivel I'm sorry but I take great exception to this sort of thing.

With proper monitoring and teaching there is nothing dangerous about the internet. The danger comes in when kids are given free reign of an unrestricted internet connection away from the view of an adult. Teaching PC use and internet safety is more important than ever and suggesting kids stick to consoles - thereby completely avoiding the learning possibilities of a computer and the general skills they will develop which will help in any number of future jobs - is short sighted and frankly absolute nonsense.

Maybe your ex should be taking more responsibility for what the 8 year old accesses rather than blaming the internet. Sorry if you take offense at any of that but the "internet is bad and dangerous" arguement is media hype and nonsense and churned out by people who believe everything they read.

Hold CTRL+Scroll your mousewheel up and down.

Has the same effect I believe.

Oh and regarding the above two points. It's a mixture of both of your views. You can't just sit an 8 year old on a PC and say "have fun" and walk off and leave them unsupervised for 1 hour. That's just ridiculous. That is why there are security options and software available to control and monitor what the computer is able to do.

Other than that, you can try traditional methods which include sitting with your child and spending time with them on what to do and what not to do and how it all works. You might have some fun quality time, who knows!

With regards to the Internet, you can't blame it but at the same time it isn't exactly "a place for children" in my opinion. Things have to be controlled and regulated, just like in real life. There are some genuine situations where one word is searched and the results returned are slightly off the mark to say the least.

The right thing to do is be responsible, teach your kids properly and use the right tools available. Ignorance isn't an excuse and is also contageous.

No, you misunderstand me.... I too hate all the scaremongering, it's not the media though, the conspiracy goes far deeper than that.... It's actually more to do with pressure from the retail giant's, I come across so many people who fear using the internet to buy good's of any sort because of credit card fraud and god knows what else, if those people lost that fear the large retailer's would really suffer.
It's this fear that online scammer's prey on too.

I'd stand and argue with anyone that says the internet is bad or dangerous! It's not dangerous in the right hands! it is undoubtably our greatest modern day resource, without it we'd be back in the dark age's and if nothing else, paying far too much for consumer good's as the shops would have no competition.
Let's hope for all our sakes, that the EU don't bring in this new law that allow's ISP's to make websites subscription based! (i'd post the link again but it'd probably get the thread deleted)

The other media hype that affects me a lot is all the crap about !!!!!'s, perverts and terrorism! As a keen amateur photographer I have regular run in's with either PCSO's, the real Police or over the top parents just because im carrying more than a camera phone. Being stopped by the Police for doing nothing more than walking through a family picnic area carrying a DSLR on my way to the local woodland, is just ridiculous!! A waste of Police time, and what idiot called them in the first place?

But the fact of the matter is that parents these days allowing children free reign over the internet, completely unsupervised. Just like them buying 18 rated games for the under 10's, they allow it because it keeps the kids quiet for a while and "it's only a game, it can't do any harm"!! They should be out playing with their friends, not trapped inside the house doing god knows what on the internet.

I apologise to OP, this is by no mean's any reference to you. You just would not beleive the things I come accross on an almost daily basis.
