Bank Charges

Hi
I wondered if anybody can give me a bit of advice. My husband has an authorised overdraft of £100 on his account (Lloyds TSB). There was a direct debit due but he didn't have enough cash in his account to pay it but the bank went ahead and paid it so it took him over his authorised overdraft. I didn't realise until the other night they are charging him £20 PER DAY until he can pay the money back. (He is self-employed and has been struggling with work so hasn't had much money to clear it).

Surely this is wrong? Can he write to them asking them to pay it back - it's extortionate? If so, can we use the letter template from this website?

Many thanks in advance.

Is it his personal account or business account?

Is that a personal account or a business account? You mention he is self employed so does he have a "trading as" account or just a normal personal current account?
