Hello
I have noticed that I have some missing and cracked roof tiles, can I replace these or have I got to get a professional to do it?
Thanks

Providing you like heights you can DIY. Most just slip under the tile above & hook over the tile batten which is fixed to the roof trusses. You obviously need a tile similar to the ones already there.0

Thanks for the reply, will the cracked ones just come off too?0

Some tiles will probably be nailed in which case you have to lift the next one up and prise the nails out. I wouldn't bother about trying to nail back the new one though.0

Some roofs and in my case the tiles are nailed every 3 tiles along. The first time I wanted 2 new tiles replaced because they had flown off in the wind I got a professional to do it at a cost of £75!
The next time the wind came along they blown off again because he had not nailed them in and just replaced them. This time I got a mate who likes heights to replace them for me and I bought two new tiles for 0.45p, yes that is right just 0.45p each and job done for peanuts and a few beers and £74 cheaper!
PS: I did ring the roofer back and gave him a ear fullRegards,
Dave
If only I had a pound for every time I used the thanks button0 -
Yes, it's easy enough.
If the tile you want to replace is nailed, just slide the tiles directly above upwards to reveal the nail head. You can then remove the old nail and tile with a claw hammer, and nail a new tile in its place. Then just slide the top tiles back down level with the other tiles.
You can get away with odd tiles not being nailed, but they nail so few tiles now, I'd stick a nail back in. Usually every third row of tiles is nailed, but some do every fourth, saving on nails... Old tiled roofs are often nailed every second row.0
