ESA ...must be a record !!

I applied for ESA for my 17 year old daughter on the 5th May and yesterday received the award for the higher amount..in the support group after the 14 weeks is up on the 4th August. (108.55 a week)
Have received lots of info from the ESA and communication from them, cant believe how smooth it all went, now waiting till October to apply for my other daughter who turns 16 then.
THANKS ESA for making this whole process easy for me..

Well done on getting the award for your daughter. Im waiting to be told what group I will be in although I assume I will have to have a medical etc. Did she have to undergo this? I have heard a lot of horror stories on this and other websites. Anyway it must be such a relief and Im very pleased for you.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I applied on 1st May, and got a letter on the 7th saying that I can have £64.50 at the moment. I've been medically retired from work, and have sent back my medical form. Hoping to be in the support group now.
I found them all very helpful, and quick.

    Hi,
Without wanting to worry you, its unlikely that you will be in the support group from what Ive read. Very few claimants are put in it - in fact this is the first time i have heard of it. What seems to happen is that you are assessed of what you can do, not what you cant. Im in a similar position in that i probably will have to be medically retired from my job. I have reports from GP, Occupational Health and consultant stating I cannot work. Still im expecting to have to go for a medical and waiting for the date. I think its about looking at alternative jobs/ work...not your existing employment.

Im finding the process stressful but now accept the inevitable. Its not helping me get better!

Being medically retired has nothing to do with ESA, the ESA medical test is to find what you can do, the personel caperbility test.

Its the first case I`ve heard of getting into the support group, congratulations OP.
  • congrats op...my mum whos practically housebound hasnt even been put into the support group and has to do the pathways couse starting in 2 weeks. good luck tho.

thanks everyone, As i said i am surpised that it happened so quickly. I would have expected not to hear anythnig for the next couple of months.
I hope that everyone else as smooth a ride as i had....
they do seem to be very strict as to who goes straight in to the support group.
Have spoken to my SS benefits officer this am, to tell him the news and he says that the level of learning disability that eMILY has would make it IMPOSSIBLE to find her a job of any description.
    Good luck

It is the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) with ESA and the Personal Capability Assessement (PCA) with IB.
