Just thinking about a (small extension) We have a three bed house, but are thinking of another bedroom and en-suite, above the garage, Can anyone give me advice in how to go about it, do we get some one to look first to see if it is possible etc, Also and I know -how long is a piece of string-, how much!! (Scotland)

First thing to do is get a few builders round to get some quotes and also get some architects to quote for planning etc. You will definitely need a building warrant and may also need planning permission, (not too up on Thurso's requirements, although I do know they are one of the better councils, thank god you don't live in Midlothian).
As for price, well, definitely how long is a piece of string, all depends on what materials you want to use, specifications, sizes etc. Get at least 3 quotes and compare...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
