USB Drive unrecognised

Hi.
I have an emtec 4GB USB drive that has stopped being recognised.
It was plugged in when we had a brief power cut/ power surge.
Now when it is initially plugged in it flashes, and the drive letter (E) comes up on "My Computer" as a removable disk.
If I try opening it, checking propertise or anything, I am asked to input a disk into drive E
I have uninstalled and loaded drivers...and can't get anything recognised on the (thumb) drive.
My initial thoughts are that it got cooked...but wondered if anyone here had any thoughts advice....other than to advise about better anti-surge protection;):o
There is very little critical info on the drive.....but it would be nice to get it back.

Try it in another PC before you write it off

You could also try this : http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/info.htm?language=1
Depends what's wrong with the USB drive though. You might be lucky and the files are recoverable. But yeah.. try another PC first.0 -
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!
I should have said that I had already tried in another machine and had the same issue.
I've now tried the PC inspector which unfortunately tells me that it has a size of "0 bytes" and the drive state is "busy" so won't even allow me to start analysing.
It looks like an effective program, though...I now have it for future use.
I don't intend to bin it yet...I'll probably wait a few days for more suggestions, then "file" it for a future "project"It's nice to be nice .....

With double the storage (8gb) drives going for £10 on play.com / amazon.co.uk is it worth continuing since you have the data off the card?0

Don't buy cheap rubbish USB sticks, go with a good brand for good reason.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I've heard stories of people putting drives in the freezer, once frozen attaching them to the computer to get the data off.
Nothing ventured nothing gained...There are many things I'd like to say to you, but I don't how...0 -

Very fair point, about the "disposable price" of the media now but from the original text:

I can survive without the info, and re-write some scripts and things that were on there, but it will save time and effort, if I don't have to;)It's nice to be nice .....
