Thing is it's not only the toothpaste that gets left behind but also bits of food debris if you don't rinse.

The bits of debris go when you spit.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I have to disagree with you because when I go to the dentist and I've had my teeth cleaned I am always told to rinse and spit. Otherwise the debris stays in my mouth. :p

I always brush then floss, think I may give the floss then brush a try. The dentist always says they can tell that I floss, but never asked whether this was before or after brushing.

I also use sawak sticks, its the root of a tree, its used a lot in the Middle East (google it). I am not sure if it is available in UK, but here it is sold in the chemist/supermarkets they are about 30p and would last about a week, although i would imagine the locals would go through them much quicker than that.

You simply chew one end of it, remove a little of the bark then rub the chewed end of the sawak into your teeth, gums, between the teeth. The first time i used it i thought it tasted a little like turnip.

You can then cut the end of the stick off until you need to use it again.

May not be everyones cup of tea but I am hooked and use the sticks about 5 times a week.
