Manhole in kitchen

I have an extension at back of kitchen and we discovered when we refloored years ago that there was a manhole there which was for the soil pipe - how disgusting.
Unfortunately we were quoted thousands to move it. We recently had some work done in the house and had a new wooden floor laid. My husband was worried that we may need access to the drain in the event of a blockage etc which has happened once in the 7 years we've been there. So our fitter cut out a square the same dimensions as the drain, fixed it to a tile and put it back- however he has sealed it with a horribel black rubber thing which now really shows up in the kitchen.
The floor is beautiful but has been spoilt by this horrendous black rimmed square in the middle of the room - cant even cover with a mat.
Could they have done something else or sealed it with something that was less evident.
Has really upset me so any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, It isn't a problem having an internal man hole cover as long as it is done properly.
You should really have a special internal one that has a double seal system, it will have a metal frame that surrounds a recessed area that you lay the flooring into so all you see is the slim metal frame.

Hope this helps.0
