EU rules re. appliance warranties

Is there a thread somewhere discussing the news I heard a couple of weeks ago, about how domestic appliances now had to be repaired or replaced any time up to six years after purchase, due to the EU regulations?

I'm pondering n a £90 for three years quote on my new washer dryer, as it seems quite cheap compared with some (although I'm not sure whether the three years includes the first year manufacturer's warranty, in which case it is about average), but don't want to fork out for this if it is covered under the law anyway.

If no-one knows what I'm on about I will assume the EU thing was just a rumour, or I've dreamed it up!
:D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

One thread HERE on the Consumer Rights board, I think there are more, but our own SoGA does more than this, i.e. a claim can be made up to 6 years after purchase under SoGA.

The 3 year quote will include the manufacturers warranty whatever length of time that may be, some cover for 2 years, Siemens for example.

Personally I would not take out an extended warranty, the SoGA suffices me.
