Car Insurance No Claims Lost advice

Hi
In Sep 2007, I purchased insurance from Tesco and had nothing but problems.
In Dec 2007, a car backed into me. No significant damage apart from broken number plates for both parties. £10.00 replacement charge.
However, I received a claim from my insurance company notifying me that they received a claim for damages for £965.00 from the other driver!!
I responded back detailing the nature of the real accident.
After several conversations with the claims team I heard nothing further. However, did chase it up via phone and even sent several letters requesting a response.
In August 2007, when I purchased my new insurance and detailed that I have 5 years no claims. Up until now, I have been sending over evidence of my bonus several times and even written in to complain about the fact I keep getting charged for my insurance without the bonus. Finally after a very strongly worded letter threatening to cancel my direct debit, I got a response.
It appears that they needed an another letter to explain who insured my car between between May 2007 (HSBC) to them in Sep 07. Once again produced this - sent by post and fax to them. Note that during the last two conversations, I was told that they will be revising my policy once they received and written notification explaining who insured my car previously.
Now today I have called up again to find out what is happening about my premium and after being on hold for 24 minutes I been told I don’t have any no claims due to the 'incident' back in Dec 2007.
What do I do? any advice. Please help.

I guess you meant Aug 2008? This seems really harsh. I guess you have no alternative but to accept you have had an accident, even although it was little more than a scratch.
However, one should not go back to zero no claims for one accident. With 5 years NCD you might have been better opting for protected NCD.
A few years back I had a small bump with a.n.other car. It was my fault and I offered to pay for the damage. It came to all of £35 for a broken side light and no damage to my car. The jerk reported it to his insurer, so I left him to argue with my insurers. My premium went up, but I took some satisfaction in the knowledge that his next premium would increase by more than £35."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I thought insurers took only two years NCD off you if you had an accident? Or does this vary between insurers?
Can you list the periods of insurance and who you were insured with when? Your email isn't clear.
If there is a scenario where someone claims against you, and they don't dispute it (for whatever reason) then it will go down as a fault claim for you.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
No - NCP means that your level of no claims isn't affected by a claim.
If you don't have NCP, then one claim means you drop down 2 years.0 -

No I didnt have no claims protection - and I did dispute the claim and even complained about the no communication.
There must be something I can do? A regulatory body?0 -
Gee whizz, why don't you read your policy booklet? or any of a zillion posts referencing the ombudsman? Google FOS for details"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Sounds like the other driver reversed into the front of your car and then decided to report that you drove into the back of them which would make it your fault.
If you have any incidents again, take photographs of how the cars end up, any road markings and signs, any skid marks and the driver. This can help prove in a case like this what actually happened0 -
My guess is other driver had an another accident shortly after and tried it on.
In other EU countries they have a multi part accident report form where both parties can fill in their account and sign it. Thus both parties have a copy to send to their insurers, avoiding the he said this she said that scenario."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
