hi i live with my mother, we live in a 3 bedroom house owned by Civiv Housing Association (Birmingham), we've been living here since October 2001, thats over 8 Years, my mother is interested in buying it but some people say the company won't sell it, but others say it may.
My mother is about 64, and on state pension, and Housing and Council Tax benefits
Can we buy it

I have just googled and I assume this is the organisation?! http://www.bcivic.co.uk/advice_info.htm
It looks to me that they only rent, as their ethos seems to be providing affordable housing via this route. But of course the best way to find out is to ask them directly.;)

How would you mother finance the purchase? It's doubtful if she could afford mortgage. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

As far as your mother goes, at 64 she'd only be allowed to take a 10 year mortgage as (I believe) it has to be paid off by the time you're 75. That would be very very expensive. Also, without an income other than benefits/pension, won't get a mortgage. If you had the savings to buy it outright, I assume you wouldn't be in HA housing (and if you do, something is very wrong!). So no, your mother probably could not buy her home, even with the HA's permission.
If YOU want to buy it, and you have a steady income, a good credit rating and a deposit and the HA say yes, that is another matter.0
