cancelling rights

I ordered photographs this afternoon in Portrait Place Debenhams Glasgow and paid with my credit card. I have now changed my mind and phoned Portrait Place who have refused to cancel my order. They have admitted that the photographs have not started to be printed but as my payment has already been authorised there is nothing they can do. What are my rights?

As far as I know, nothing. Did you read or ask about their cancellation policy before you placed the order?
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I don't know for sure but would suspect that you don't have any rights other than the chance of a bit of goodwill from the store. You placed the order and paid for it thereby entering into a firm contract. If the store don't want to allow you to cancel it then I don't see how you can make a case for making them cancel it - your only reason appears to be that you have just changed your mind.

I think the fact that so many high street stores have a generous refund policy has swyed us into a false sense of 'rights' when , in reality, we often don't have a leg to stand on.

    I may be wrong though.

I too don't think you have any rights despite the fact that the printing has not started. Technically, you were on their premises so there is no call off period, and you have no statutory rights for changing your mind - High St retailers who offer this are doing so out of pure kindness (did I really say that?)

I'm not sure what you mean by ordered photographs - did you take some in to be printed or have your portrait taken by a photographer - if the latter, can't blame them to recoup the time cost for the photographer.
