Advice needed on leaving Virgin media

I phoned up on Monday to cancel my VIP package to 9 months of terrible broadband and TV (V+). I need to find another broadband supplier quickly and would appreciate some help please. The problem is the Virgin phone line. Do I need to go back to BT for it to be compatible for broadband suppliers like O2? Not sure I want to sign up to a 18 month contract with BT to be honest.
Can someone run through some options for me please or recommend supplier that they are very happy with?
My service runs until the 1st July and want to get everything in place before then. TV is not essential, but broadband and the telephone is.
