New Mover

Ok so next week I’m moving in to a rented house mid 70's build with my partner :j.

I'm just after some advice on the Electrical side. As its bit of a mind field
Ok so its a mid 70's early 80's house and only has electricity so it has storage heaters which i guess at the moment.

It's a small 2 bed house with double glazing, not sure about any roof insulation. When we went to inspect the property on Tuesday it was a warm day and inside was all pretty much one temperature and pretty warm.

The electricity is currently with N Power, after spending a few dinner hours trawling through various suppliers I’m none the wiser. A few people have said that Scottish power is cheap.

I don't think we will be heavy users really, everything will be turned off at the plug and lights off until a candle won't suffice :rotfl:. With little to no daytime week usage.

So we're really just after suggestions of who is good who is bad and who is CHEAP :T

Thanks in advance Rory & Mel

    Welcome to the forum.

Initially you will have to be with NPower.

Nobody can really advise you who is best because it depends on your consumption, the area you live and how you intend to pay.

It will almost certainly have an Economy 7 tariff - you get 7 hours cheap electricity in the night to heat up storage heaters and hot water.

I think all you can do is to go to a comparison website and enter in some estimated consumption figures in kWh. I would start at, say 10,000kWh per year with 50% at night. Then try variations on that consumption.

For my area for most combinations BG web Saver3 comes out cheapest.

I would also recommend taking readings in winter yourself, and working out on a weekly basis how much your energy consumption is costing you. It might save you a serious shock.
