I am a lone parent get child tax , chld benefit and income support . when i worked before i did 8 hours a week and still got a little income support to top up my wage do they still do this ??? as it is 15 hours i cant claim working tax which is a shame does that mean i cant get help for child care ?? I really would like to work but am scared im going to be struggling for (a) childcare cost (b) affording the weekly bills i need to know i can afford it first ..............or do i keep looking for a better job ???

    Hi Katie,

if you are on a low income you should still get help with your rent and council tax.

I would suggest if you take this job to either start doing Avon etc as self employed to bring your hours up to 16 then you will be entitled to working tax credits and childcare costs.

How many children do you have?

You will be better off taking the job as the government are lowering the age of the children from 12 to 7 when the parent will be expected to return to work so they will be transferred to JSA.

If you take the job, plus do something self-employed to bring your hours up to 16 then you will be better off. You will recieve WTC, CTC, CB, LHA, CTB and you will get to keep all your maintenace.

If you cant find anything extra to do to eke up your hours it might be an idea
to ask if you can work 16 hours for the same money - i know you will be working an hour for nothing but it will be beneficial in the long run.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Sorry I was typing with a toddler sitting on my lap and it was a mistype.

I just hope that the sarcastic smilie was not aimed at me as I have offered you some good advice. I could also comment on your lack of punctuation.

It makes me wonder why I actually bother to post on here.

I think the sarcastic smile was aimed at the Father of the children and the lack of payment for the children.
