Help! Greenfly on Honeysuckle & Whitefly on Roses

Hi all I am really hoping that you can all help me. I have noticed that the tips of my climbing rose (new dawn variety) is covered in tiny whitefly and I am not sure how to get rid of them.

Something similar is happening to my honeysuckle too. It is covered in millions of tiny larvae which I think is turning into black fly - not sure I am a fairly new gardener.

I am due to go away on hols on Sun for 2 weeks and don't want these pests to take over everything!

Anyone had any success with these?

Thanks

Jo

    Either:
    Method 1.
    a. Remove the worse of the infected plants by cutting it away and disposing in your landfill refuse.
    b. Put washing up liquid in a spray bottle and spray everyday.
    c. Plus go and buy some marigolds and plant them in the ground in your garden to attract hoverfly. Depending on the variety you get and where you plant them you won't have to water them.

    Method 2
Buy bug spray and spray the !!!!!!s. Making sure you spray in the evening to avoid killing bees.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    Half agree with Olly.

Alternatively do nothing and let nature sort it out.

Reality is you cant stop them totally so you either end up nuking the garden or accepting that a concentration of pests will attract predators, a process you can help by encouraging hoverflies, lacewings, ladybirds to your garden by a mix of planting and bug hotels.

Trouble with spraying is that you kill the good guys too.

I manage to keep control on my toms by picking them off and blasting eggs with a water spray. My Mum says you want weak soap &water, less than a teaspoon per litre, but I've not tried it myself yet. Would say it's def worth cutting off bits that are really infested as they each multiply by 100 per week so it gets bad quick!

I've never known a year for greenfly like this one.
Everything's covered in them in my garden.

I have the same problem...I thought it was just me!

I really thought about this too, before I started planting. I planted wildflowers in the hope of attracting friendly bugs and we have had a fair few ladybirds. I also went for a bit of companion planting ( basil with tomatoes etc.)

Last night I was out there with my fairy liquid spray, I'm hoping I've killed the majority. I think the only way I can keep on top of it is regular checking, squishing and spraying.
