I don't think this is available as a freebie I'm afraid, I bought software off Ebay and it was only a few quid.

Some are a free trial, but then you can try them. When it ends try the next one. Also try other search engines with free cross stitch software .

Was looking for something similar myself, but discovered that if you have photoshop, you can make your photos into cross-stitch by opening your image, choosing Filters and then pathwork.

It allows you to choose the size of the squares, so you can more or less pick the canvas size to suit.

Give it a try, see what you think!
