help rubarb gone to seed why?

last year i bought a little rubarb plant , this year it has grown tall and there is seeds ? why has this happened it didnt even give any fruit to eat ? i am very new to gardening and am a bit lost but trying hard
any advice would be great, also can i use the seeds to grow more plants?

You eat the stalks of rhubarb, but never the leaves. If it is flowering, you need to cut the flower stem down so that it puts all its effort into making more leaves. You may not be able to cut any stems this year but if you feed it well - comfrey, manure, or even grass cuttings, it will be bigger next year.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Old fashioned gardening books say that rhubarb is a spring fruit and you should not pull rhubarb stems after the 1st June. This is to allow the plant to build itself up again throughout th summer.
I agree with the post above - cut off the flower stem as soon as you see it, don't let it grow.
BTW, pull out the stems, don't cut or break them off as they end left in the root can rot the base.Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
